Acquirement of Turkish Citizenship by Foreigners
With the decision published with the signature of President Tayyip Erdoğan, in the Regulation on the Implementation of the Turkish Citizenship Law, which entered into force in 2010, was amended regarding the Article 20, which regulates the acquirement of “Turkish citizenship” by foreigners. According to this;
According to the decision dated 18/09/2018 published in the Official Gazette on 18 September 2018, the phrase “Ministry’s proposal and the Council of Ministers” in the second paragraph of Article 20 of the Regulation on the Implementation of Turkish Citizenship has been amended as “President”, and the phrase “by the Ministry of Economy” mentioned in subparagraph (a) has been amended as “ by the Ministry of Industry and Technology”.
The amount of fixed capital that was stipulated to acquire citizenship has been reduced from 2.000.000 USD to 500.000 USD.
The minimum immovable property value required for the acquirement of the citizenship by the foreigners who are real estate owners in Turkey has been reduced from 1.000.000 USD to 250.000 USD.
“The Ministry of Labor and Social Security” has been amended as “The Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Security”, and the requirement of employment of at least 100 people included in the qualifying conditions
has been reduced to 50 people.
Real estate investment fund participation share or venture capital the investment fund, which should be held in banks in Turkey, has been reduced from 3 million USD to 500.000 USD for 3 years, and the phrase “by the Ministry of Treasury” has been amended as “by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance”.
After the proposal of the Ministry related to the regulation, while the acquirement of the citizenship was granted with the decision of the Council of Ministers before, the decision-making authority has been amended as the President with the regulation dated 18/09/2018.
